1988/1989 was a truly amazing season for the Gunners. On the 26th of May 1989, Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield, and secured themselves the position of First Division League champions. Two players in that team also had extraordinary seasons: Paul Merson, PFA Young Player of the Year; and Alan Smith, First Division Top Goal Scorer.
